Are Escorts Legal in Toronto

In Canada, the laws governing the sex industry are confusing. Essentially it is legal to work as a sex worker (be that an escort, massage attendant, stripper, etc.). However, it is illegal for a customer to pay directly for sex. The way the law changed in 2014, pretty much everything related to the business became unlawful. 

On the other hand, police in cities like Toronto generally only investigate in cases where there are concerns about immigration fraud or human trafficking (pimping), or in cases where neighbours are complaining about the noise. Many escort agencies use condo units as incall locations.

It is generally rare for police to stage stings as is done in the US; however, outside Toronto, this does occasionally happen, as it is still an illegal activity.
